Greetings all,
This afternoon was a very enjoyable time together, with a sharing of very diverse stories and a welcome to newcomer Joanna Fugl. We began with Monty Kelly starting off Pass the Story - about a dragon with nostrils as big as a man and going round the circle to the numbat giving the little girl the treasure chest from the pirate ship, with its magical healing properties so that peace reigned in the village. Valda Locke, newly home from the UK, excitedly shared the story she had written of The Little Pink Bunny with its beautiful illustrations. Sally Gaunt gave an interesting French twist to the story of Stone Soup, Jenni told The Legend of the Starfish , followed by Ingrid Ipp's tale of The She Fox, an Inuit tale adapted by Hugh Lupton. Jesse Williamson arrived fresh from a workshop with a paramedic and enlivened us with tales of what to do and what not to do in some emergencies, and Monty held us spellbound as he recounted his Scottish tale of the Rock clan, inspired by his dream. Matthew McCormack held us amazed as he recounted his white water rafting down the rapids on the Zambesi River, which nearly ended with him drowning, and Joanna concluded the story sharing, telling her magpie story which somehow ended differently from what she originally intended when she first wrote it. Siovan Kelly, Brenda Berrisford and her daughter Julie, were attentive listeners, and we numbered eleven around the laden table to conclude the afternoon with chat and good food. Apologies were received from Glenn Swift, Christine Begovich, Raelene Bruinsma, Evyn Webster, Christina Cairns and Jenny McCloskey
Future storysharings are as follows - the 3rd August will be a great opportunity for storytellers to practice stories in a supportive atmosphere in preparation for Children's Book Week 17-23rd August, and of course we do need listeners who bring attentive listening skills to our gatherings.
